CENTERAL COTTON RESEARCH INSTITUTE,MULTAN


The Pakistan Central cotton Committee (PCCC) emerged as incorporated institution on the national horizon in 1948, with broad objective to concentrate its efforts on bringing an improvement in growing, marketing and manufacturing of cotton and cotton by-products through an extensive program of Research & Development (R&D) in all its conceivable aspects. The Committee is semi-autonomous body with the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock as the president. The Chief Executive of the Committee is full time Vice President of grade-21 of the Federal Government. He is assisted by the Secretary PCCC in Administrative & Financial matters, and the Directors at the Headquarter and the Institutions in all Technical Aspects.
             The PCCC is guided by four specialized Sub-Committees comprising members, nominated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture representing the Ministries of Agriculture, Textile, Commerce, Finance and Industries. Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, Provincial Departments of Agriculture, Agriculture Universities, Agriculture's Research Centers (Pakistan Atomic Energy), All Pakistan Textile mill Owner's Association (APTMA), Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) as well as growers from Punjab, Sind, NWFP and Balochistan. The Four Specialized Sub-Committees namely
(a) Executive Sub-Committee (ESC),
(b) Agriculture Research Sub-Committee (ARSC),
(c) Technological Research Sub-Committee (TRSC),
(d) Marketing & Economic Research Sub-Committee MERSC)
These are responsible for management as well as Research & Development (R & D) work of PCCC.
 
Research & development is an essential component for national growth which is directly linked with productivity on the time scale of a nation’s life. Innovations alone guarantees enhanced productivity & a crucial theme for both the developing & the developed nations desiring for welfare of the people in this era of science & technology. Establishment of central cotton research institute (C.C.R.I) in 1970 by the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (P.C.C.C), ministry of food agriculture & life stock, government of Pakistan was the right step to improve the productivity of cotton in the country by studying the cotton plant through integrated approaches. The central cotton research institute, Multan is centrally located in the heart of cotton belt & is serving the farming community of the country.
